Clean Water Access & WASH
In Somaliland's drought-hit Togdheer, Sanaag, and Sool regions, families are forced to rely on unsafe water sources or water they can't afford. We deliver clean, treated water directly to the communities who need it most — right now, while longer-term solutions are being built.
Water shouldn't cost more than a family can afford
Through regular, monitored water trucking from certified boreholes, we deliver safe water to communities facing acute shortages — with community oversight to make sure it reaches people fairly. Priority goes to those most at risk: female-headed households, children, older people, and people with disabilities.
This isn't just about avoiding thirst. Clean water cuts disease risk, supports basic hygiene, protects livestock and livelihoods, and means women and girls no longer have to walk long distances — and face the risks that come with it — just to fetch water.
What This Looks Like Right Now
923,000 litres delivered every month
7,033 households reached
(around 42,198 people)
27 sites across Togdheer, Sanaag, and Sool
We're also scaling up drought response specifically, reaching further with:
360,000 litres delivered monthly
1,400 households reached
20 additional drought-response sites
WASH: Making Every Litre Count
Clean water only protects a family's health if it's used safely.
That's why every community we reach with water trucking also receives WASH education and hygiene promotion — regardless of whether a health clinic is nearby. Safe water handling, sanitation, and hygiene practices are what turn a water delivery into lasting protection from disease, so this isn't an add-on to our work — it's built into every site we serve.
What this currently includes:
Water quality testing to confirm safety at the point of use
Hygiene education sessions for the communities we serve
Community water committees trained in fair, ongoing access
Access points designed to be safe and usable for women, elders, and children
We're expanding this programme and will be sharing more detail on our WASH training and community education work soon.
Help Us Build What Comes Next
Water trucking saves lives today, but families deserve more than relief — they deserve water they can count on. Your support helps us move toward boreholes, storage tanks, and lasting water access that doesn't depend on emergency response.
