Food Distribution & Food Security

When drought or displacement strips a family of everything else, food is often the first thing to run out. We provide emergency food assistance to households across Somaliland facing severe hunger — delivered with the transparency and dignity every family deserves.

Hunger shouldn't be met with a handout — it should be met with respect.

We support food security for communities affected by drought, displacement, and conflict — meeting immediate needs while making sure every step of our response is transparent, accountable, and shaped by the people we're serving.

We support food security through:

  • Emergency food distributions for households hit hardest by drought and crisis

  • Targeted support for women-headed households, children, older people, and people with disabilities

  • Transparent selection and verification, so help reaches those who need it most

  • Safe, dignified, well-organised distribution procedures

  • Post-distribution monitoring to track whether assistance is actually working

  • Community feedback channels that keep us accountable

  • Clear communication so every step of the process is fair and easy to understand

Food Assistance in Action

We've provided emergency food assistance to 305 households — around 2,015 people — across drought-affected and displaced communities.

This support goes first to families facing the most severe food insecurity, helping them meet immediate needs, avoid harmful coping strategies, and get back on steadier ground.

How We Make Sure Help Reaches the Right People

Getting food to a family is only part of the job. Getting it there fairly, safely, and accountably is the rest.

☑️ Selecting who needs help most
We work with communities to identify the most vulnerable households, using clear, vulnerability-based criteria — not guesswork.

☑️ Verifying every household
Before any distribution, we verify beneficiary information to prevent duplication and keep our records accurate.

☑️ Distributing with dignity
Food is distributed through organised, respectful procedures — with clear verification and crowd management so every family can access help safely.

☑️ Following up, not just handing over
After distribution, we carry out follow-up assessments to check that help reached the right people, that families are satisfied, and that food is being used effectively.

☑️ Listening, always
Community members can share feedback, raise concerns, or report issues confidentially at any point — and we use what we hear to make the programme better.
